Making Strawberry Hail

Downloaded by thousands of teachers, homeschoolers, and families, Take a Cloud Walk has been a huge hit! Recently I came across Melissa Leach’s blog in which she references Take a Cloud Walk. Melissa home schools her children and together they decided to try out my hail experiment by making chocolate covered strawberries. The objective is to demonstrate how hail is formed. She sent two photos of their experiment to me and one of them is really charming. Thanks for sharing, Melissa.

Making it Real…and Delicious!

While studying about clouds and reading our way through the fantastic book “Take a Cloud Walk” by Jane Kirkland, we came upon the page “Hail, Hail, Let’s Stay Inside”. My children are both very hands-on learners and need things to be made “real” to them. So when I realized they were having a little trouble grasping the concept of how hail is formed, I was excited to see Jane’s suggested activity “Delicious Hail?”. Who knew making chocolate-covered strawberries could teach a lesson on hail?!

Thanks Jane for helping us make it real AND delicious! ~ Melissa Leach, Burlington, KY
